Cameron White's role in the Australian ODI team

What should Cameron White's role be?

Assuming Clarke is the next batsman to regain fitness, I reckon he should come in for White. D Hussey offers a better all-round package. At least, Ponting seems to think so.
David Hussey has to be there in the Aussie set-up, no matter whether Symonds comes back or not, he is very good batsman to have in the middle order, can keep the scoreboard moving and can play the big shots too, his bowling though is a bit too overrated, i mean if Australia are planning to squeeze out the 5th bowler' overs out of Dussey and Clarke, then they asking for trouble, in some conditions they might get away with it, but on flat decks they would get spanked, having said that Dussey's off-spin is a lot better suited to ODI' and T20' compared to Symonds' off-spin.

Yup, very surprised they picked a team today that required 10 overs minimum from D Hussey, White and M Hussey.
Its not like they did it for the first time, expect for the 3rd ODI, that pretty much has been the team combination right through the series.

When Clarke and Symonds come in there is no room for D. Hussey, as harsh as it may be. You can't fit Ponting, Clarke, Symonds, M & D Hussey into the top 6, perhaps if you had M. Hussey at 7 it could be accommodated, but that's a spot better left to an allrounder, be it a bowling or batting one. He's a good reserve atm, but as has been shown this series, we've really missed our first XI.

I'm really undecided with Cameron White to be honest. On different days I have different views on him.

I'd actually prefer I had a keeper there, unless we're going a bowler short again :p

A lot of people in this thread say White is a top order batsmen, but I don't know what the hell any of you are talking about. When Victoria are at full strength he bats at 5, with Hodge and Dussey at 3 & 4. He can bat at 4 if required, but he is very much a lower middle order batsmen.

Though it been quite clear in this series and before he does struggle to adjust his game to batting at 6 & 7. Though the same could be said about Haddin, his best innings for Australia in ODIs have been at 3 or 4. Both have the potential to bat well at 6 & 7 and should be suited to those roles. But they seem to lack an experienced hand lately when their in.

It would make a massive difference to the performance of all four middle order bats (Dussey, White, Haddin and Hopes). If they had Mussey bat at 6, so they had someone with experience to bat with or the knowleadge that they have experience below.

Though once Clarke and Symonds are back it wont matter as Dussey and White wont be required,

He'll be the long term replacement for Symonds @ 5 as a batsmen imo. Can see him bowling the odd block of 5 or so overs as well if absolutely necessary.

As has been said, he's been shifted all over the place down the order, and clearing is coping well with it. Think I said it in the SA vs Aust thread, but with Clarke/Symonds injured, imo the team would be better served by playing Dussey & White at 4 and 5 like they do for the Vics, and move Mussey back to 6 where he's been excellent for Australia in the past.

I am not sure Symonds should be back, but that's a different matter all together, anyways this would be my XI even if Symonds comes back into the side, given everyone is fit.

1.Watson
2.Marsh
3.Ponting
4.Clarke
5.Symonds
6.Mussey
7.Dussey
8.Haddin
9.Johnson
10.Bracken
11.Lee

I'm just glad the Husseys don't have a brother named Peter.

Haha, good one, was about to say this when the whole Mussey, Dussey thing started, good thing indeed that none of Hussey bros have a name starting with a "P".

Think the selectors see him as the specialist Tintin lookalike in BLee's absence.

Ive said this before, but I think Australia would be best served with Michael Clarke opening the batting with Marsh which would allow the side to accomodate the returning Andrew Symonds and also allow the likes of Brad Hodge to play in the side.

Slight changes;

Watson
Warner
Ponting
Dussey
Symonds
Clarke
Mussey
Haddin
Lee
Bracken
Clark/Hilfenhaus

Would like an extra bowler maybe Tait if fit, in if Symonds is banned, that way we can have 4 specialists plus Watson. The batting order should be as above because it's been tried and tested through the golden period and Clarke batting at 4 is too high, he's lost the ability to switch gears.
