Quite sensational from Somerset. If it was televised then it ought to be sold as one of the maddest matches for many a year. The men behind Twenty20 must be delighted. For those that missed what happened then here's a brief report below but all I'll say is well done Somerset:

"It would be hard to get a match to beat the epic that transpired at Sophia Gardens between Glamorgan and Somerset. With Somerset having lost their opening match this was one they had to win to stand a chance of progress but Glamorgan are quite an awesome one day outfit.
They batted first and managed a record 193-7 off 20 overs with David Hemp just missing his half century (49 n/o). It was a target that not even the most optimistic of Somerset fans dared assume Somerset could hope to hunt down.
However, Somerset are starting to get a taste for high run chases after the Scotland match. They started how they had to which was like a team anxious to pinch the headlines the following day. Gazzard and Cox had the 50 up in the FOURTH over (that really does need repeating to yourself several times before it properly sinks in). Gazzard fell for 27 and Cox 53 from about five overs (bloody hell thats rapid) as Somerset gave the Glamorgan bowlers some very unhealthy but delightful tap. To put things in some kind of completely biased perspective, Mike Kasprowicz had ripped out the England top order in a friendly days earlier at the same ground but here against Somerset he was absolutely annihiliated beyond all reasonable boundaries. He conceded over FIFTY runs in 4 overs which is enough to make lesser men hang up their cricket boots.

Somerset cruised to victory with 2 full overs to spare by reaching a quite absurd 197-3 from 20 overs. The Somerset team are rightly ecstatic and now if they can remove Gloucestershire on Saturday then they are in pole to progress further. If not, it will be a typical Somerset cricket week. A majestic, breathtaking win followed by heartache.

Which will it be??"

We used to play 14 8-ball overs on a Wednesday night many years ago. A winning total could be anything over 90 (no fielding restrictions) but I've known 160 lose and 50 win.

Wonderful game, cricket.

And Notts bowled out for 94 in 20 overs - that's special too.

Dorset Cricket

I play 14 8 ball overs on Wedsnesday nights in the Wimbone Evening League. As a bowler, if you go for 25 from 4 then you've done a decent job. Teams tend to score around 10-12 an over. its mayhem but a great laugh.
Also captained a pub cricket 20 over team in Middlesex last year (www.crown.play-cricket.com) which is awesome stuff. It s a great leveller as you can get some talentless oike with a good eye who will butcher the bowling of someone who normally plys their trade about 47 divisions higher. great stuff!
