 So he does.

Must have the capability of playing a damn sight better than he's looked in his international outings so far.

That said, still only averages 11.

Ah, Simon Jones-esque.

(Never seen so many people fooled by a slog-filled innings as they were by Jones' 44 in his maiden Test innings.)

PS - Lower order batsman =/ Tail ender.

Vettori is not a tail ender. If Klusener bats at 10, which he has IIRC, he is not a tail ender. He's just batting at the tail end of the innings.

It seems NZ can only produce good tail end batsmen lately.
Only?

?

I know he recently broke through the hallowed "double figure" barrier in tests, but... :p

Can I just say England have NO good tailenders coming through really ... some of the worst ever maybe??

And also a severe lack of allrounders as well!
Yeah, have been thinking that for a year or so myself.
Couple of spinners who can hold a bat might come into the selectors thoughts this year. There's Rashid at Yorkshire, obviously & a bloke by the name of Saqlain down at Surrey....

Yes, I quite agree. Arguably in the 2nd test with a 8-11 of Hogg, Lee, Johnson & Clark Australia were playing with no tailenders.

Not to mention the man who is currently England's second choice spinner...

That raises a point, actually. With Fletcher in charge the ability to wield the willow with at least some degree of adequacy seemed to be a pre-requisite for his spinners. Guys like Batty, Dawson, Udal & Blackwell all got a go when Keedy, who's a batter bowler than any on a bad day but a non-batsman, was consistently ignored. Swann was only overlooked because he (apparently) blotted his copybook when picked for our tour to SA in 99/00.

Even when Monty got a run it was only because Ash Giles's hips had misaligned again. As soon as Gilo was (half) fit Monty was dropped. Yet he never demanded batting competency from his seamers, always picking the best (in his opinion) we had available.
