Sachin & Ganguly set to become most prolific partnership in International cricket

Currently Greenidge and Haynes hold the record of 11,688 runs in 251 innings (Tests and ODIs combined) at an average of 49.52, with 31 hundreds and 51 fifties to their credit.

After yet another 100+ partnership in the last ODI, Sachin and Ganguly are currently on 11,364 runs in 229 innings at an average of 50.95 with 34 hundreds and 41 fifties to their credit.

In all probability, the old firm of Tendulkar & Ganguly will soon gather the 324 runs required to overtake Greenidge-Haynes by the end of this year, to become the pair with the most runs scored in partnership in international cricket.

So this isn't just opening, it's every time they've batted together? That's an amazing effort. Congratulations to both of them!

Top notch work really, especially consiering Ganguly's relative weakness as a Test batsman compared to Greenidge-Haynes and Tendulkar.

Yes, they've opened together lots in ODIs, but what makes this special is the test partnership between a #4 and a #5/6. They actually average more in tests than in ODIs (53 vs 47).

good effort that TBH....always knew that both batted well together, but never was aware that they were that prolific...good stuff...hopefully they carry on the good work!

Whatever it takes!!!
yeah, obviously one would expect them to be great in ODIs as both are two of the greatest ever ODI players, but to see that they actually average more in tests is quite astounding for me... Amazing effort from both of them. If only Gangs could improve his running......... :D

Hmm, it would be very cool if they can knock them 324 runs in the remaining two ODI's in England
You mean they should win the last two odi's single handedly for India (if a pair's efforts can be called single-handed).

Considering India's inconsistent bowling and fielding, yep... then again I wouldnt say single handedly as the middle order will need to build on their opening partnerships :).

But two opening stands of ~160 runs in the remaining 2 ODI's would be very cool indeed for the Indian supporters in England (isn't this the last time we'll see Sachin/Ganguly in England? not sure)

Aussome. Who would have thought just 6 months ago that the two would ever open together in ODIs again?

ODI india has always done weel when these 2 have opened..they should have been up ther always with sehwag coming in one down...

Maybe you always said Sehwag shouldn't have been opening (maybe...) but his form in 2002 was pretty compelling. It's just a shame it kept him in the side for as long as it did. Maybe if he'd been dropped in early 2004 then Ganguly and Tendulkar would've been reunited quicker and would right now have much more to their name.
