Long awaited Indian Squad for the WC

Mongia has been badly out-of-form recently and Karthik has been grossly ill-used by the selectors, so.....

Hooper described Kartik as the best Indian spinner he had faced in the last series! I'm really upset at the treatment the guy is receiving at the hands of selectors:!(

Personally I can't see a scenario where Kumble doesn't go. He may not deserve to, but his experience will win the day IMO.

Experiance is vital especially in a tournament like WC, but its also essential that one must be in good touch with ball/bat .Lately Kumble has not even been a shadow of a player he once was.He must deliver in NZ, or should face the axe.

Can someone explain why Das is playing in the ODI today but not in the world cup 30? he top scored too

International Captain
also because the team management is stupid, even though the guy made 30, it didn't work out for India. Rayadu should be picked, hes averaging 80 in FC cricket and is 16 years old!
Tendulkar was averaging 45 when he got picked!

Andre

International Regular
Well, i would have thought that they would play Partiv Patel at 7, with Dravid as a specialist batsmen and Ganguly opening with Sehwag. Atleast Patel is in this squad and the 30.

How many seasons has he played? Stats can be misleading. However, if he's played at least two full seasons, he should be in there.

He was incredible on tour with India U19s in England last summer.

IMO he should definitely be in the fifteen, if not starting.

I think pushing in one so young is not such a bright idea Neil, especially if a side is hoping to do well.

It never hurt Sachin, did it?

And yes, I do think Rayudu could be as good as Tendulkar.
I don't think burdening a youngster with such heavy expectations even before he has started his international career is a good thing. Not all youngsters can be as mentally strong as Tendulkar was even if they are as talented.

My Indian squad would be:

Sehwag
Ganguly
Tendulkar
Laxman/Mongia
Dravid
Yuvraj
Kaif
Khan
Srinath
Harb
Bangar/Karthik

12th man: Nehra

15th member: P. Patel

But it could also bring out the best in him... I think we probably need to know a bit more about the player before we can come to a conclusion, anyone with a slightly closer knowledge of Indian Domestic 02-03 like to help out? :)

I agree that playing years and years of Indian FC cricket is really not going to hone his skills much except maybe against spinners, but he is just 16. We can easily wait for another couple of years so that he becomes a little more mature and then ease him into the team. It will also show us whether he is a flash in the pan or the genuine article.

16's old enough to be mature enough for Test Cricket in my book. If you're good enough, you're old enough.

Let's look at the youngest Test Match players:
14y 227d Hasan Raza Pakistan v Zimbabwe Faisalabad 1996/97
15y 124d Mushtaq Mohammad Pakistan v West Indies Lahore 1958/59
15y 128d Mohammad Sharif Bangladesh v Zimbabwe Bulawayo 2000/01
16y 189d Aaqib Javed Pakistan v New Zealand Wellington 1988/89
16y 205d SR Tendulkar India v Pakistan Karachi 1989/90
16y 221d Aftab Baloch Pakistan v New Zealand Dhaka 1969/70
16y 223d Talha Jubair Bangladesh v Sri Lanka Colombo (PSS) 2002
16y 248d Nasim-ul-Ghani Pakistan v West Indies Bridgetown 1957/58
16y 352d Khalid Hasan Pakistan v England Nottingham 1954
16y 362d Mohammad Ashraful Bangladesh v Sri Lanka Colombo (SSC) 2001/02

Plenty of those have succeeded, Ashraful even hit 100...
