Yeah, pretty sure Hendrikus Wessels or whoever he is (no good with Afrikaans names) is British-qualified.

Actually didn't know Ervine was though. You learn something new every day...

Leicestershire -Claude Henderson - South African (Kolpak)
Northamptonshire - Lance Klusener - South African (Kolpak)
Northamptonshire - Riki Wessels - South African (Kolpak)

Warwickshire - Heath Streak - Zimbabwean (Kolpak)

Yorkshire - Gideon Kruis - South African (Kolpak)
Yorkshire - Jacques Rudolph - South African (Kolpak)

It's ridiculous some counties have two and two overseas players and probably EU passport holders as well. Then add in old pros 35+ and selectors don't have many to look at.

TBH, the problem is not lack of players for the selectors to look at, but I cringe when I think of how much will have been spent on importing them and others, plus everyone who's played the last 4 seasons...
 TBH

I think it's mainly down to South Africa changing their provincial set up to just 6 teams and the mess that is Zimbabwe cricket. When we can only have one overseas player next year will we have even more Kolpaks?

Ian Ward says -
The main problem is that a lot of money is going out of the game, perhaps as much as £2.5 -£3 million a year is being paid to non-English players - that encompasses both overseas players and Kolpak players. That is an awful lot of money per year to be going out of the game

And I'd bet Wardy's only talking in wages, too - just imagine the figure when you add in airfare and accommodation.

:(

Me, I'd be perfectly happy to lance overseas-players completely while the Kolpak ruling still applies.

There is indication that a new draft EU constitution may reflect that sport is different to most forms of employment.

Yup, English accents v much in the minority at the Rose Bowl. From their last Friends Provident game: Lumb (saffie), Ervine (zimba), KP (saffie), Pothas (saffie), Mascarenhas (aussie, albeit UK born one), Warne (aussie) & Clarke (aussie) . That makes four native-born Poms in out of eleven. :-O

Dont' forget Lamb (Zim) and Latouf (SA) and McClean (SA), though McLean has gone now.
