NZC is seriously considering employing two coaches for the Black Caps: one for tests and one for limited overs teams.

It's as though they don't think Bracewell is a good enough coach to improve NZ's test performances, but still think he is worth employing! It's time for NZC to simply get a new - decent - coach! This policy creates the possibility of segregation in the squad. And who selects the squad?

Does anyone else think employing separate coaches is a good idea? I don't. Depak Patel is rightly questioning the problems it would create when playing abroad.

Somebody has to be in charge.

The only way I can think of it working is that there is a Head Coach or Director of Coaching and a specialist Test coach working below him and a specialist OD coach.

I could see how having a specialist assistant coach might work, but the team really needs to have one head coach for each format.

I quite like the idea, actually. The test side and the ODI side will often have completely different sets of problems to go with the different personell and the different games in general. Bracewell does take me as a good ODI coach but I do feel New Zealand could do with something fresh in regards to their test side - although maybe they should organise to play a few tests first before they worry about that!

I think the ODI games and Test Matches should be completly seperate and have seperate teams (obviously both sides can use the same individuals!) so yes a good idea

We could give it a go, though if we do we should probably have a specialist test and ODI 11 like Hoppy said.

A specialist ODI coach is a good idea and had Fletcher chosen one during his time with England I think he would still be the England coach. England tend to look at what other teams are doing and copy them rather than come up with new and exciting ideas of their own. I can just see them thinking 'oh we can't have a separate ODI and Test team and coach because no one else is doing it'.

No. There should be one able to do both jobs. For NZ, I suggest John Wright. You could have an OD coach among the assitants but his role would be similar to the batting, bowling and fielding coaches some teams employ.

If you want to have separate test and ODI coaches (which im not particularly a big fan off), then you have to have 2 separate teams. You cant have one coach telling them something and then have the other coach instilling a completely different philosophy.
AFAIC, if you hire a coach, hire one thats actually competent with both forms, and not someone like Fletcher.

My thoughts exactly. Though Kev, too, has a point.
