I thought it would be a good idea to finish of the best XI's from different eras. We're up to the pre World War 1 Test XI. This poll is to decide the openers for the team. You'll need to choose TWO openers from the following:

Batsman Mat I NO Runs HS1 HS2 HS3 Ave 100 50
Charles Kelleway - 15 24 3 832 114 102 70 39.61 2 4
WG Grace - 22 36 2 1098 170 152 75* 32.29 2 5
Victor Trumper - 48 89 8 3163 214* 185* 166 39.04 8 13
Tom Hayward - 35 60 2 1999 137 130 122 34.46 3 12
Bobby Abel - 13 22 2 744 132* 120 94 37.20 2 2
Joe Darling - 34 60 2 1657 178 160 101 28.56 3 8
Warren Bardsley - 20 33 0 1490 164 136 132 45.15 5 7

Yay! The best series of threads in CC returns.

Trumper and Grace - quite easily for me.

Trumper picks himself. The other spot was a bit tougher to choose. Hayward and Bardsley were both contenders but I decided to go with Grace.

Jeez, didnt even know we had this thread.

Anyway, though I should vote for Bardsley and Trumper, there is no way I cannot vote for the good doctor aka The Champion.

So, my vote goes to Grace and Trumper.

Dunno about Grace based on his test record - wasn't he best part 40 by the time they started playing them? Obvously it wasn't his fault they didn't start 10 - 15 years sooner, but you can only pick people on what they've actually done at that level.

btw Was Arthur Shrewsbury an opener, or did he bat in the middle order?

went for trumper and Grace however Bardsley was close mainly because of his twin centuries against England in same match. only others to do that are Arthur Morris and Steve Waugh
