Well here is the thread to discuss the upcoming India tour of New Zealand 2 tests and 7 O.D.I's at home ! Well these matches will be fully used by both the teams as they prepare for the World Cup
the Indian team is being named on Monday and ill post that here as soon as it comes , till then carry on discussions

West Indies has just finishes the tour of India and India didnt look good at all in the O.D.Is their bowling was poor except for the 2nd last match , the only thing that saved them in the O.D.Is was the batting,

What do you think will the 16 man squad be ?

Das really hasn't been getting playing time lately and with all the faith the Indian selectors have in Bangar...he probably won't see much more on this tour.

I think the real dangers for India would be Astle and Bond. If India somehow see them off then India will have a very good chance of winning. I think the bowling attack is good enough against NZ . Nehra will most probably will regain the swing he had before the ENG series in the test series . With Srinath,Zaheer , Nehra and Harbhajan it looks pretty good for NZ conditions with the swing there will be .

Choora

State Regular
Bond will be the real danger man for Indian team, Astle has also been in good touch and can be very destructive on his day.

My 16 for test series would be,

Bangar
Sehwag
Laxman
Tendulkar
Dravid
Ganguly
Patel
Khan
Srinath
Kumble
Harb

rest would be : Kaif/Balaji/Nehra/Kartik/Daas!

Kumble should be given another chance.Agarkar should only be played in onedayers and could come in place of Balaji in the onedayer team.Daas should also pave way for Yuvraj in the onedayer team.Rest remains the same!!

Yes bond and astle have to be looked out for and on the other hand , new stars rise each time when India play a team , Macmillan will be a key player, and also a youngster like Adams will play a role , Cairns is back so their bowling lineup is quite strong now..

I would say its going to be a real even series... India needs someone consistent to support Khan

And for New Zealand they should stick to playing 1 spinner = Daniel Vettori , hes the good one and the others arent good at all , they should leave it at 1 spinner otherwise it could cost a game

Should be a great series

God bless FOXTEL!!!!! and FOX SPORTS!!! They are showing India v New Zealand, so I can watch the series LIVE in Australia, it should be a fantastic series.
Shane Bond/Chris Cairns (if fit) vs Sachin Tendulkar/Rahul Dravid should be fantastic.

India need to work hard on this tour, and this tour will be the most influencial tour according to their world cup plans.

I reckon Irfan Pathan should go instead of Nehra or even Kumble as they have been useless for the past year. The prescence of Sachin Tendulkar should be a huge morale booster, and the little man is due for a 'DESTRUCTIVE' series with both bat and ball.

I am curious as to why only 2 tests - is it because of the upcoming WC?????

I think the Indians may get a surprise re the NZ pitches. From what I have heard NZ has been experimenting with the drop in pitches in an effort to get more pace and bounce - not as slow & low as they used to be.

NZ's weakeness for some time has been it's top order - however I am not convinced that India have the pace attack to exploit this. If the top order can see the new ball off this will give some hope to the Kiwi middle & lower order where their batting strength lies.

As for their bowling it will depend on the selection of the 3rd seamer to partner Bond & Cairns. I would like to see Butler given the opportunity.

For the ODI series I hope they pick a specialist 'keeper such as either Nevin or McCullum, and play Vincent in the field. My other hope for the ODI's is that the selections of the recent ICC tourneyment were brought about because of a shortage of available players, and that some sence of normailty will prevail.

Test Squad.
Richardson, Vincent, Sinclair, Fleming, Astle, McMillan, Cairns, R Hart, Vettori, Bond, Butler. Options - Tuffey, M Hart, Adams, Styris, Harris.

ODI Squad.
Astle, Vincent, Fleming, Sinclair, Harris, McMillan, Cairns, McCullum, Vettori, Bond, Mills. Options - Adams, Styris, Oram, Tuffey.

India's strengths are obviously their batting & spin attack. I have no idea how many wickets fell to spin in the last couple of series in NZ or what the pitches have been playing like - so India's success may come down to their seam bowlers, who will not have a lot of confidence at the moment!!!

:)

I have a feeling that this is going to be an extremely good ODI series.

India have come off a loss to the West Indies, but Wright knows the tricks to bowling in NZ so India should come right, whilst in Christchurch Cairns & McMillan have been beating the daylights out of the club bowlers.

I think from India's point of view they need Khan, Harbhajan, Sehwag & Tendulkar to fire (and i believe it will be those 4 that Fleming will be targeting) while NZ will need Bond, Astle, Cairns & Vettori to be on form.

There is just this feeling going around at the moment that this series really is going to build up into something special & it looks as though ticket-sales have been good for all the matches which is a positive sign.

I also heard from a mate in Christchurch that when they went along to watch Shane Bond at a club match he was bowling EXTREMELY quick, which is what I like to hear.

Bond is the key in my opinion, India haven't really had to face up to a genuine quick in awhile & so Fleming needs to base his attack around the quicks probably Bond, Butler & Adams.

If Pathan and Balaji are to be given a chance then it should be in test matches rather than in onedayers. As for Kumble, it would be good if he's given one last chance b/f the Cup, if he fails again then India might have to think about his omission from the WC squad.

Ya due to WC.Initially it was 3 tests and 5 odis.To get good practise before the WC both the boards decided to cut 1 test and play 2 more odis.

I believe there is an American or Indian net broadcaster showing all matches live for about $50 US dollars.
I can't remember the link, so i'll try & find it out again.

Im going to make an outside bet that Jeff Wilson makes the ODI team against India.

Here's a report from Cricinfo on his performances last Saturday:

"Southland all-rounder Jeff Wilson provided some encouraging signs on Saturday that he should be ready to join the Otago side in their next State Championship match, against Canterbury starting at Carisbrook on Friday.

Wilson suffered a side strain two weeks ago and was ruled out of Otago's opening match, but he returned to his Appleby club side with a vengeance. They recorded a five-wicket win over Invercargill-Old Boys with Wilson taking five for 48 from his 10 overs while he scored 34 when batting with two fours and two sixes during his side's first innings, before backing up with 48 not out with another two sixes and two fours, in their second innings.

And just to show there were no ill effects from his injury he gave a fine display in the field, taking four catches during the opposition's first innings, then took another in their second innings."

thats excellent news & good to hear Cairns & McMillan blazing away aswell as Oram with his 96 against Otago...maybe these guys have been given the message.

Sorry forgot about Cairns there. He always comes good against India:(!:(!:(!
Is he fit again then?

And if he is, will he last the whole series this time, or will he get injured again and put himself out of the World Cup?!
