Afridi back, where should he play?

Most people want him to play at 6.7 basically down the order

I dont think thats the best position for him at all, maybe on english and australian pitches, but not in sub continent

he needs to open on the sub continent pitches or come 1 down if there is considerable movement early on

especially when chasing, he needs to open, there have been numerous situations most notably againts india in india, where pakistan were chasing lost wickets, needed alot of runs of the last 15 or so overs, but afridi simply seemed useless at that spot

if he had opened, right from the get go, you would think he could quickly change the match in the favour of pakistan
he seems to make a much greater impact when he opens and gives paksitan a good start

feild restrictions also play a big role, afridi most of the time tries to hit the ball out of the ground, doenst really worry too much about placement, this is really suited to the first 15 overs of gameplay

with teh field spread out, afridi has had minimal success, ofcourse we can refer to the 50 of 20 odd balls he made againts australia in australia, but pakistan still ended up loosing that game.

I dont think its the worst desicion in the world to play him lower down the order, if they are obviously tempted, i think they should do the following

always look to play afridi within the fielding restrictions when ever pakistan CHASES
maybe send him lower down the order when pakistan bats first

I've always thought he should open.

Even though he fails quite a lot here, surely it makes sense with his style and the first 10 overs restrictions. He has more chance of getting away with it, on paper.

    If not there then 7.

To be honest I can't see him being a better play than any of the current Pakistan lineup with perhaps the exception of Mohammad Hafeez, who is still young and learning and who I think has a very big future ahead of him. If he was to come straight back into the side, it probably would be to open with either Imran Farhat, Mohammad Hafeez or Shoaib Malik.

More power to him if he does - he's fun to watch when he's going, I just think the players already in the team are better than him at present.

With Younis, Yousuf and Inzamam out of the next ODI, his inclusion can perhaps be justified?

The series is wrapped up isn't it? Why not debut a new kid and see how they go?

We're up 2-0 with still 2 matches to go, so not quite wrapped up as far as I'm concerned. One could argue that he brings some experience in to the team, however, seeing as how he is coming in to the team as pure batsman, you could say there are better choices out there.

He should just concentrate on playing Twenty20 from now on.

    On what basis?

He clearly has the capability to be destructive with both the ball and the bat, his domestic form with the ball is excellent, and he just got a 90 ball hundred as well. I think he deserves a shot just as much as any other player who is performing well.

He has a much better record in Test cricket than 50 or 20 over cricket.

number 6 or 7 since that is when it is needed for him to score fast and play big shots.

i also think that for this match they should pick yasir hameed in place of hafiz. hafiz is a test player not a one day and i think his strike rate proves this.
open with yasir and farhat and then in one down they should send malik who really plays good in this position. i think the team should look this way.

    farhat
    hameed
    malik
    faisal
    razzaq
    kamran
    afridi
    rahman
    naved
sami ( in place of rao)
    gul
