How many of these players would have played one day cricket for England

......................had they been around in this era. They all had good county one day records at a time when not many non Test players were considered, hence England opened with Boycott and Brearley in the 1979 World Cup. (admittedly they chose a specialist wicketkeeper in Ian Gould, though I still don't know why they didn't choose David Bairstow).

Peter Lee
Harry Pilling
John Whitehouse
Graham Johnson
David Hughes
David Turner
Harry Pilling
Richard Lumb
Stuart Turner
Keith Pont
Andy Stovold
John Rice

a lot of those players are what I would classify as county plodders, ie. perfectly serviceable county champ pros who simply wouldnt have the talent to perform anywhere near the standard required at international level....although I dont know who John Whitehouse or John Rice were

Exactly...this is sort of player who England have chosen in recent years, eg Solanki, Matthew Flemming, Vince Wells etc who are nowhere near good enough for International Cricket.

In that case, they would all have been shoe-ins for the England ODI team :p

It was the first completely irrelevant word that came to my head at that moment in time. Now, I think I see why...

It amazes me how people can use completely the wrong word in a hedgehog.
'Should of' has become a part of culture which has never properly been corrected at school level.
