Can pakistan qualify for the super-six?

If Pak can't get opponents out by having a bowling attack with bowlers like Akhter/Akram/Waqar/Razzak and Afridi THEN even the inclusion of Saqi won't make much a difference.
And attack containing Shoaib, Wasim, Waqar and Abdul is too samey IMO - needs variety, hence I would personally drop one of the real quick bowlers.

Roy,
I agree with you on that, Afridi and Razzak can prove to be costly and Saqlain, a top onedayer bowler, would be a far better option. However, if Pak goes with 5 specialists bowlers, then their batting would be weak, as has often been the case.

Afridi isn't a stable opener, and with Razzak comming at one down slot, Pak might end up losing quick wkts, and the pressure will then be on Yousuf and Inzi.In my opinion the onedown slot is very important position, Misbah comming at one down slot would provide lot of stability to the batting line up, and with Yousuf/Inzi and Youhanna to follow Pak would be in a better position to put up a good score.

I guess its all a matter of one's priorities, Pak for one always put the emphasis on the bowlers!

He averaged 21 with the bat, which for an allrounder is pretty decent. However i would like to see a better performance by a specialist batsman comming at one down slot.

New Zealand/Pakistan fighting it out for the last spot.
I wouldnt under estimate New Zealand that much.. they probably have a better balanced side , even though the pakistani side may have big names i think it lacks consistency,

New Zealand have a better O.D.I lineup on performance with the likes of ppl like S.Bond , D.Vettori, C.Cairns , N.Astle , A.Adams to name a few they will fight well

Interesting comments, only few ppl would be willing to write off Pak.The Pak team that is not playing well is more of a Pak B team, when the seniors will return everything will change.

Interestingly Pak have a very good recent record against both England and NZ, against them atleast Pak perform consistently!!

Against England they have won 7 off their last ten matches, while against NZ they have won 8 off their last ten matches!!!

NZ have a better OD side than Pak?? that must be joke.Pak have a 80 percent record against them (in the last ten matches).

As for consistency, i don't know how you consider NZ as consistent, if at all they are consistent in losing matches.

Let have a look at the recent stats of the two teams.

Pak : won 11 of their last 20 onedayers.
in the last ten onedayers, they won 4 matches

NZ: won just 6 of theit last 20 onedayers.
in the last ten matches, they won just two matches.!

New Zealand however aren't in Pak pool , so the claim that Pak and NZ will be fighting for the 6th place for the super six is senseless.

Sounds like excuses to me - I seem to remember a lot of people being shot down for using the fact that half the England team were out as a reason for poor performance in the ICC.

The way I see it (Teams with approx % chance of reaching Super Six - these need to add up to 300% per group)

Group 1
South Africa 99%
Sri Lanka 94%
New Zealand 58%
West Indies 45%
Kenya 4%
Bangladesh 0%
Canada 0%

Group 2
Australia 94%
India 74%
Pakistan 62%
England 58%
Zimbabwe 12%
Namibia 0%
Holland 0%

I thought i was just an observer, how could i come up with an excuse on behalf of the Pak team??

you have also forgotten that Pakistan is right now playing TEST MATCHES, onedayer is a different ball game, and if there is a different Pak team playing a diffenet ball game, then chances are that the result might be different.

Well, when the same thing happened with England, it was just sore losers excuses, so I don't see why it should be any different here. And considering your past posts, I can't see you being just an observer!

Mark,
You have to get English team off the mind over here, i was never a part of the senseless debate over the English team performance against India.

The following players will most probably be in WC side which aren't in the present side

Anwar
Afridi
Akram
Azhar
Yousuf
Inzi

I haven't included Razzak and Akhter as they had played the first two match in the present series. It defy logic if you think their inclusion won't make any difference, they make more than half the team and you have still failed to realise that we here are talking about onedayer cricket while the Present Pak poor performance is in TEST CRICKET!

If you guys were branded as sore losers on losing the NW trophy then its not a fault of mine so stop complaining about it.

ALSO, unlike you, i haven't come up with ANY excuse for Pak team's poor result against Australia(if we do agree that i'm not just an observer).I will openly say that Pak would still had lost the test series to Aus had even the seniors been in the team though it might not had been a white wash.

If you are looking at level of inconsistency , look at the Indian teams record for test they have not won many series abroad or many tests , but still their team looks to be good ...

New Zealand have that thing of performing at the time needed , i know the ICC was a real big disappointment for them but if you look most of their good players have been hard hit with injury and they are still trying to sort the team out ,

Whereas for India hardly do anyone like Tendulkar or Khan been injured , they probably have once in a while but if you look the New Zealanders have probably been the most injured hit team that keeps getting injured players..

The team playing in the ICC was a weak , young N.Z team , teams like India , Pakistan and Australia were sending in full strenght squads, so it would be kinda more shameful if ppl lost posing their best squads

Out of interest Yorker, why did you over-react when I was talking about a post from someone else?

Lord,
I do think that NZ have a good team, infact they can come up with a big surprise in the WC by knocking off Australia !

About India, i think things have changed lately, they are no longer a team that was heavily dependent on one man, i.e Tendulkar.I think even if Sachin gets out early, they have the men who can complete the task!
