OK. Here we go again, hope that this time the thread isn't hijacked by "India v Hindu... whatever"

I have now got myself a website hear with CricketWeb to do my Rankings forever maybe... here are the details before a finished website is up...

The Actual Rankings Page

How These ODI Rankings Work

So what you think? I'll say this since the start of the year the three SL v NZ games, has made NZ leap frog SL into 3rd.

I don't want to be too critical because clearly a lot of thought went into your formulas, but I'd have thought Pakistan would be higher

Jono 07-01-2006 08:13 PM

Yeah Pakistan's position is my only query, but it looks like you've gone to a lot of effort to get this underway. Congrats, great effort :)

honestbharani 08-01-2006 12:53 AM

I would have thought that Pakistan and India would be above Sri Lanka, but obviously rankings take into account a lot more than current form. Good job. :)

Correct,

After the last of the four SLvNZ ODI, New Zealand still holds a slender lead over Sri Lanka in 3rd and 4th.

-----

The VB Series
Australia 1st
South Africa 2nd
Sri Lanka 4th

Sri Lanka has a very good rating against the other two countries so a failure to get to the final here will send them down the rankings quickly.
AUS 31.74 v SA 18.26
AUS 31.14 v SL 18.86
SL 29.95 v SA 20.05

PTU, explain how New Zealand get higher rankings despite the fact they lose?

Yes that is a mistake on my part although the numbers are just the wrong way round.

SL 3.75 v NZ 1.25

one small flaw in the system is that teams which lose and YET play a lot of ODIs seem to get a lot more points than teams which may win a lot but play very few matches a year.

Personally i would have thought that was a major flaw! Luckily, when a team plays they have an older game dropped from the rankings, and all other matches are scaled downwards. So winning in your rare games will still give you more points than losing often.

honestbharani 28-01-2006 12:37 AM

well, I guess I misunderstood the way it works then. Sounds better. Cheers. :)
