Player rankings

Hello all, does anybody know how the player rankings are calculated or where they can be found. I understand they are quite complex and the ICC website only gives a summary.

Pete - Although it's from the ICC website, that you've already looked at, this is about the best explanation available:

As you can see, it's not something that you can explain to friends over a cold beer.

Thanks for your reply Howard. If a formula can not be found has anybody derived a formula for player rankings themselves that they would consider a true relection of players performance. I have been looking at the rankings used by Channel 4 (see attached) but I see too many loopholes, in particular with the bowling. Let me know your thoughts.

The ICC ones are for me, about as close as you can get to modelling form (although there was an argument against that in the All Rounder category - I think that's more due to the way it's calculated rewarding brilliance and mediocrity more than good and good)

The algorithms used have been kept secret AFAIK.
