*Official* Third Test at the WACA

Certainly looks a strong Australia batting line up (which tbh i've never doubted) but the bowling is still pish weak IMO. Hauritz is better but average, Smith isn't anymore threatening than North, Johnson = LOL.

Recon the test will draw though. Both sets of batters fire. 950 runs in first two digs.

Squad has been leaked to me and on Fox Sports.com.au

North out, Smith in
Bollinger out, Johnson in
Dohers out, Hauritz in
Katich out, Hughes in

And maybe Siddle out, and Hilf in
Is that legit, or just guess work? Because if that's the actual team, that's not ideal.
Katich for Hughes is a given, and Doherty for Hauritz is probably the other obvious choice, while Johnson for Bollinger is maybe to do with fitness issues. But Smith for North? What is the point of having two spin bowlers in Perth, especially seeing as though one of them is the 'seasoned' specialist? I could understand more if Smith was coming in for Doherty, but that line up means he is taking up a batsmen's spot. He is decent with the bat, but Khawaja and Dussey, in particular, would have been far better options. Our batting is fragile as hell, and is the main reason we lost the last game, so anything to bolster it is a plus. Unfortunately that side, while stronger than the last one, still doesn't improve our batting much.

Why does everyone think that Smith's a spinner? He's a batting all-rounder ffs.

North Out, Smith In = Failure Out, Circus In

Our team has now officially became a joke.
ffs, why do you think that Smith's a mere glorified slogger? Does a glorified slogger average 50 in Shield cricket?

Are we sure Dougeh has lost his place simply due to form? As others have mentioned he seemed pretty out of sorts, not in great shape physically, and there were fitness concerns coming into Brisbane which may not have been worked out in Adelaide.
I think its a bit of both, he completely ran out of puff in the England innings, but he also wasn't bowling as tightly as he has done before. I would guess they figure if you have two misfiring lefties then go with the faster one as two would be giving extra ammo for Swann who they now appear to be petrified of.

As a hypothetical, what would people actually prefer: for us to win the Ashes with the same, familiar team and these players to be retained because of that for a long time afterwards, or for us to lose the Ashes resulting in whatever you would consider the optimal team being established afterwards due to the defeat.

Nah nah you've got it wrong. TumTum is like a cricketing nostradamus, he knows. Once predicted something about a T20 tournament didn't you know?
Not to mention the fact that TumTum has admitted that he has been following cricket properly for only a year.

Can't see how this is even a choice. I'd never want the team to lose just to see the back of an individual I don't like. Under no circumstances can losing be a good thing. No two people will probably agree on the optimal team anyway.

Yeah, silly question. The only person who would rather lose just so the people he doesn't like get dropped is Cribbage.

Yeah, and that's only because I don't really follow anyone at Test level.

Wouldn't want NSW to lose to get someone dropped from the team, tbh.
