Why do you keep saying Watson is "new" when he has a Test record?

Because the thread is to show the form of each player over their last 10 tests and Watson only has 3 tests (just like why Mahmood would be called "new" if I didn't think Anderson would be ahead of him).

Then why include Read's games from 30 months ago?

But Cook not's played 10 either.

Maybe it's because Watson's figures so far look horrible...

McGrath: 17 wkts @ 30.35

Clarke: 119 @ 19.83

Read: 162 @ 27.00 and 14 dismissals (12/2)
Harmison: 22 wkts @ 27.81
Hoggard: 14 wkts @ 43.50

Where`s Bracken?

A few worrying signs for the Aussies statistically.

Bracken has 12 wkts @ 42.08 (enough said)

I think the "5-Test" stats show that the Aussie's may have a real problem with the openers and Martyn will stay under scrutiny. The biggest surprise to me was McGrath's poor record in his last 5 tests, especially since he hasn't played for awhile.

From the English perspective, Trescothick is in worse form than I thought and the 4th and 5th bowler (behind Flintoff, Harmison and Panesar) looks a real problem.

Oh yeah, shocked to see that Jones had 29 dismissals in his last 5 tests before he was dropped (shame his batting wasn't better).

Key in my opinion - the First Test. Since 1990 when the 'Gabba has hosted the First Test of a series Australia have won 11 and drew 4. But the interesting point is of the four teams that got away from the 'Gabba undefeated one went on to win the series(WI '92-'93)and two others held Australia to draws(NZ 2001-02 and India 2003-04).The one exception was Englamd in 1998-99 - but they would have probably lost but for a thunderstorm. Australia will EXPECT to be 1-0 up after Brisbane with their record there so if England don't lose it will be a big boost for them. PS - looking at the form guide just confirms something that has puzzled me for ages - why did Australia drop Hodge so soon after his 203 no v SA? The figures suggest he has a good case for being in the 1st Test team ahead of both Martryn and Clarke.

Form Watch for 2nd Ashes Test

The following is the current form (last 5-tests) of who I think will play in the 2nd Ashes test:

Australia

1. Hayden: 168 runs @ 33.60
2. Langer: 349 runs @ 49.85
3. Ponting: 720 runs @ 102.85
4. Martyn: 265 runs @ 37.85
5. Hussey: 565 runs @ 80.71
6. Clarke: 131 runs @ 26.20
7. Gilchrist: 194 runs @ 27.71 --- 17 dismissals
8. Warne: 103 runs @ 17.16 --- 27 wkts @ 27.92
9. Lee: 175 runs @ 43.75 --- 16 wkts @ 36.43
10. Clark: 70 runs @ 17.50 --- 28 wkts @ 17.39
11. McGrath: 25 runs @ 12.50 --- 18 wkts @ 31.05

12. MacGill: 55 runs @ 18.33 --- 24 wkts @ 25.29

What this highlights IMO, Ponting & Hussey are Bradmanesque, Hayden & Martyn need a good score, Clarke is still marking time for Watson, Gilchrist looks human for a change, Lee should bat above Warne and McGrath needs another Gabba performance in Adelaide.

England

1. Strauss: 467 runs @ 51.88
2. Cook: 457 runs @ 50.77
3. Bell: 425 runs @ 70.83
4. Collingwood: 425 runs @ 53.12
5. Pietersen: 455 runs @ 50.55
6. Flintoff: 163 runs @ 23.28 --- 20 wkts @ 27.30
7. Jones: 123 runs @ 15.37 --- 24 dismissals
8 Giles: 229 runs @ 28.62 --- 6 wkts @ 90.50
9. Hoggard: 50 runs @ 7.14 --- 12 wkts @ 51.16
10. Harmison: 89 runs @ 14.83 --- 21 wkts @ 34.23
11. Panesar: 39 runs @ 19.50 --- 22 wkts @ 27.09

12. Anderson: 40 runs @ 13.33 --- 14 wkts @ 41.57

What this highlights IMO, Englands top 5 is in awesome form, Flintoff should bat at # 7 if there was another batsmen available and Giles should bat above Jones, except his bowling is and of course the fact that Hoggard and Anderson are struggling (Harmison doesn't seem too bad with 21 wkts).

Proves you can't always base things on averages really. Would barely get into a county team with how he bowled in Brisbane.

Yeah, but with Giles averaging 90, Hoggard 50 and Anderson 40 in their last 5-Tests, would you really not have harmison in the second test? At least he has potential if he could get his mind right.
