Feel like Zaheer had a better all-conditions peak. Sustained it for a good few years too. Lee had an excellent 2007-08 season but he was done a few months later.

Is he? I didn't think anyone (certainly in these parts) really rated him in Tests.

This I think swings it for me. While Lee did have a few patches where he could lead an attack, it wasn't for as long as Zaheer.
Interesting comp though, both probably around a similar-ish level.

I actually really rated his bowling after McGrath retired even though his record in that period just looks okay. Vastly improved his bowling in that period and led a mediocre attack against some good batting lineups on roads.
That was a pretty short period of his career though. Zaheer was better.
