Man, I wish posters would at least have the decency to congratulate the man on his achievement first in this thread and hopefully save the comparisons for later. I know OS did not intend it to go this way but damn you man.. You should know better than to bring up comparisons in a thread congratulating a player on some achievement. We are not even into page 2 and already debates and comparisons have started.
Nope. In this case it's a good thing that I compared him with Dravid and Kallis and Miandad. Did it intentionally because the bloke has gone under the radar for ages. Just "congratulating him" won't open people's eyes to how good he actually is.

Whatever it takes!!!

No.. you just made the thread go from congratulating a great player on a great achievement to what is usually a pointless and biased debate on who is better than whom. And FWIW, there have been any number of posts on CW comparing Younis to the ones you mentioned.

Congratulations to a magnificent player, gutsy fighter, and true gentleman. I think YK's great test batsmanship doesn't get properly recognised partly because his ODI batting record is pretty mediocre when compared with his contemporaries. It shouldn't, but I think it is a factor.
That is true but it is also hugely exacerbated by the fact that he plays for Pakistan. This country and the cricket culture is not used to separating formats and appreciating a player on Test cricket alone, or placing Test achievements on a pedestal higher than others. I mean Steve Waugh averaged 32 with 2 ODI centuries but that has never ever come in the way of assessing him as a test batsman because the culture he is from values Test cricket above all else and is able to differentiate between formats.

The first answer I get when I mention YK's achievements is "but only in Tests". This is not a condition that most other countries or fan bases place on their players. Yes SC fans do value LO cricket a lot but Pak fans take it to a different level. I mean you won't hear SL fans talk down Jayawardene because he averaged 32 in ODIs.

He is the only member of the 10K club with more test 100s than 50s. Being able to cash in on starts is a great thing.
His conversion rate is absolutely in ****ing credible

On the formats issue, I dont expect that everyone should share what is common at CW that tests are the biggest thing. But at the very least, you want the fans to be able to recognize that each version brings its own challenges to batsmen and great records in one format need not be tarnished by not so great records in others for the same players. I mean even Lara had less than great ODI stats.
