four excellent interwar period bowlers that are often overshadowed by Larwood, all with a good case.
Voce – Bodyline partner of Harold Larwood, quick but mostly relied on swing, left handed, very consistent and averaged an excellent 26 before the war. Very accomplished away from home, averaged 25 away before the war, outperformed Verity in Australia and bowled on par with Tiger. excellent in South Africa and won a game in West Indies in his debut series. was rarely ever picked to play at home, Bowes beign a far more popular selection on English wickets.
Bowes – Prolific first class champion, insane first class record, was excellent at moving the ball in the air or off the pitch. His biggest weapon being the ability to harness steep, weird bounce that unsettled the batters. Averaged 21 before the war, but failed in his one test in Australia and was almost never picked away from home, Voce being the far more popular option, a little slow, nothing outside England.
Cowie – dominated England in England in his early series, could swing the ball, got good bounce and good pace off the pitch, carried a very weak bowling. sadly never bowled in Australia and career was shorter and less prolific compared to the other two due to less games.
Martindale – Dominated England in England in his first ever series, very fast and bowled short, extremely fast off the pitch and bounced high, difficult to play on wickets that had pace. Stats a little amped by a sticky, didn't play much and failed In his second english tour.
