What is Indian Cricket League?

Ok, so we have been bombarded over the past couple of months with this ICL...

Can you answer a few questions?

1) What format does it take? 20/20 I guess. Will the rules be the same? (eg Powerplays, No Ball Rule etc?)

2) Who is involved? Why is it called the Indian Cricket League and not Cricket World Series? I guess they'll be playing in India, it will invole a lot of past heros like Lara, McGrath etc, but who will make up the rest? Indian rookies?

3) If almost every PURE cricket fan you come across (even on CRICKETWEB) is keen to stay away from 20/20, why is everyone so excited by this prospect? I think Ponting is right. If the financial lure is enough (which it will be), it's going to give players the option of retiring early from Test Cricket to focus on "ICL"...

4) Is the ICL a nececceary evil... or is it the beginning of the end for Test Cricket?

5) What's stopping the English, Australians or South Africans starting an English Cricket League, or an Aussie Leauge? Nothing I guess... isn't it dangerous to give India so much financial power in our game?

6) How many teams will contest, who selects the teams etc?

Bosh.

The ICL aims for 2 overseas players per team. Counties in England were allowed 2 overseas players each.

Spot the difference 8-)

How rude is this guy? Get off your high horse mate, if you don't want a discussion, then go to the next thread.

And by our game, I mean EVERYONE'S game, not just those with the money... you don't see anyone jumping to help Zimbabwe, West Indies or Bangladesh do you? Least of all India...

He isn't rude at all. And it isn't possible for him to get off the high horse since you're the one riding it.

Cricket belongs to everyone, not just those who proclaim themselves as the 'official' custodians of the game. Any individual has the right to start his own league if he wishes, and you don't have to display your prejudices just because this league happens to be Indian. Sure you'll come out now and attempt to deny it with a generous sprinkling of righteous indignation, but you've still not explained why English county cricket should have the monopoly on luring overseas players.

As for Zimbabwe, the West Indies and Bangladesh, you're spouting nonsense.
Zimbabwe is a political issue, not a cricketing one. A certain individual named Stanford has 'jumped to help' the West Indies (strange how his venture elicits no criticism from you), and Bagladesh wouldn't even be a Test/ODI cricketing nation were it not for India pushing their case in the ICC. 8-)

ICL : Its an idiotic league run by a few idiotic people who have lots and lots of money but don't know what do with it,so they come up with an idea of starting such a league so they can help retired players earn some bucks :punk:

Here's a tip, don't be so biased when trying to explain something to a member.

Nah. You were seriously considered for the final set of Awards to date but I said "probably give it him next week".

Not to take the discussion further off-topic, but what's going on with the awards?
We've decided to put them on hiatus, for several reasons. Explore the most recent Awards thread and if you still don't understand, ask me for a full explanation. :p

I was wondering how the people who are running ICL gonna recover the kind of money they have invested on this venture. They have offered huge and i mean really huge amount of money to foreign cricketers but ICL has hardly generated any interest among people so where would these guys (ICL) make money from.
