What happened to reverse swing?

Joe Ninety

School Boy/Girl Captain
Over the last few years it was hard to have a discussion about a game without 'reverse swing' sticking its head up,whether in the written press, commentary on the TV broadcasts or indeed on this very forum. So where has it gone? Can no one any longer bowl it?Has it had its day in the sun?

I was unashamedly at the forefront of the " stop banging on about reverse" brigade and realised this evening that I hadn't heard the term used in quite some time and it got me thinking.
Has the cricket world moved on from reverse swing?

Reverse swing was all that was talked about during the Aus in India series last year

Depends on the ball really. Some balls reserve swing other don't. Also there not many swing bowlers around.

Height of Ignorance.Just beacuse bowlers from your country don't do it doesn't mean others aren't.

Just wait for Flintoff to get his first wicket in the upcoming Ashes, and "reverse swing" will be back in public consciousness for the next 2 years again.

Reverse swing is still about but less dramatic.

The reason is that fielding teams are cheating far less because officialls are being far more vigilant.

Practices in the recent past of bottle tops, lollies, rubbing in the dirt, finger picking and other assorted cheating have been better policed.

Those yorkers swinging in 2 foot were NOT natural and can't be reproduced within the rules of the game.

cheers

I'm still yet to see how sucking on a lolly while fielding is cheating, regardless of what you did with your saliva. That's like saying a bowler who puts hair gel in his hair before he bowls, then rubs the sweat from his head on the ball is cheating. Or if a bowler is wearing sunblock, and rubs his sweat into the ball...or any fielder who chews gum and then shines the ball with their saliva is also cheating. Piss off.

Maybe his palms are sweating...because he knows he's about to CHEAT. It's a vicious circle of SIN.

Oh I never thought of that. Must suggest it to my doctor friends. Opens a new line of treatment for those suffering from hyperhidrosis :)
