West Indies in New Zealand (Tests & ODI's) Discussion

Expected to be a closely fought Series, can the Windies continue their Form from the World Cup in this tour of NZ??

Another series which IMO will be very very tight...
The windies performed well enough in the WC whilst the Kiwis, well they were dissapointing after promissing so much early...

They will have done alot of soul searching after their early exit and they will need to come out firing or the Windies could well get the win...

The performance of the West Indies in the World Cup was pleasantly surprising for the most part, though the team couldn't quite push on as we'd have liked in the Super Six stage. I'm confident that the Windies can beat New Zealand, but the bowling would have to drastically improve first.

We've enlisted Auckland's Dwayne Leverock to help in this regard.

This'll be a pretty cool series especially for Mr Mxty. With so many of his Auckland stars lining up against the opposition. Surely his level of knowledge of NZ cricket will help his side force and upset in both the test and OD arenas.

I think that NZ might be the real fizzers. Both Kurt and Reub's have struggled to get them to gel as a unit.

Now Ian, thats not true. Certain players have just got real attitude problems I've found. Quite disappointing

WI will have to work on getting 20 wickets for the match. I'm confident we can match it with any international side with the bat, but we certainly need to improve our performances with the ball. Looking forward to the series.

^ Kurt whatever happend to brotherly love?

Btw i think it wasn't the attitude problem that pulled our team down.. rather lack of form at the crucial moment..
And this upcoming series will be a true testimony of NZ's capabilities under our management.
Bring it On !! i say!

Well the different timezones saw New Zealand and West Indies kick of the innaugural WCC Test Series, and it started in very controversial fashion...

New Zealand managers Nibbs and Lord of Darkness were among several NZ'ders involved in contract disputes with the New Zealand Cricket Association which led to the Black Caps fielding an understrength side...

The Windies won the toss and had no hesistion in batting 1st.. They put in a good effort despite all of their players getting starts, however only Tennyson got passed 50 and was out shortly after. All out for 321..

The kiwis started well in reply but fell apart mid innings to be dismissed for a poultry 186..

The Windies had a 135 run lead, however missed a huge opportunity to put the game beyond doubt when they were bundled out for a dissapointing 155 in their 2nd Innings, again Tennyson top scoring...

The Black Caps chasing 291 to win were all but gone when they fell to 3/20, however a massive 146* from Canterbury's Kyle Mills with support from Godwin and Howarth saw the Black Caps home by 5 Wickets..

Reports from New Zealand are saying that both Black Caps Managers are on the brink of being dismissed..

Well with the Kiwis 1 up in the series and their contractual problems over, both sides fielded full strength teams..
NZ managers Reuben and Kurt managed to hold onto their post despite being at the head of the contractual issues and were confident of rapping up the series with a win...

Code:
New Zealand West Indies

E Howarth C Gayle
G Burley I Vernon
A Holland S Chanderpaul *
Z Roberts D Cowe

Q Hazare R Hinds
O Clarke * D Bravo
R Plummer T Bradshaw
R Ezard A Best

The Black Caps won the toss, but in a surprise decision sent the Windies in on a wicket that looked rather good for batting..
The Windies proceeded to punish the Black Caps for their decision, although after a dreadful start people would have thought that Black Caps skipper Clarke was a genius..
From 2-2 and 3-31, the Windies rallied through Chanderpaul and Jenkins, both falling agonisingly short of hundreds, but Jacobs finished the job with a polished 119* to lead the Windies to 441..

After a big gamble backfiring the Black Caps needed a massive effort to survive...
The top order looked under pressure and this showed through in their performances as they slumped to be 6-99 before Gow added some late order fight, his 93 not enough to save the Black Caps from the Follow on, All Out 213..

No hesitation from the Windies to enforce the Follow on, and it paid dividends as the Black Caps got a disastrous start, 1-0, 2-0, 3-17, 4-27, 5-36..
Things didnt get any better as wickets kept falling, Hazare this time provided the late order fight, and help from his fellow lower order helped the Black Caps avoid an innings defeat...

The Windies needing 35 to win, lost Gayle for 9 but that was with 33 already on the board.. The Windies taking the Series to a decider and what should be an absolute cracker...

And people try to tell me that Holland is a better batsman than Jenkins. Holland can slam all the runs he likes against weak division five sides, but Jenkins' class has shone in this test proving he can handle the best in the world.

Brilliant comeback there. Very pleased with the boys. It looks like those extra paces Kyle and I put them through paid off beautifully. Fantastic knock from old boy Jacobs. It's going to be difficult to replace him in the future.

Good to see ex-Auckland supersta E Howarth struggle, and I think that match proved conclusively that Gerard Burley, Zaheer Roberts and Renie Plummer are lame tbh. (Not so much Plummer though)

WEST INDIES WIN SERIES 2-1

International Captain
following the test series defeat to the West Indies I have decided to hand in my resignation as the NZ manager. i'm not resigning because of the defeat, but because i have just lost any real desire to continue on in this role. i'd like to apologise to blewy, after he gave me this job. i feel like i've let him down tbh.

if reuben wants to, he can take my job, otherwise i will leave it to blewy to decide
