I think for Kohli, the peer reputation is more influenced by his output in white ball cricket. He is great in Aus and SA but very flawed everywhere else.

Kohli's peak was legit Great, especially the year 2018. At one point he looked a sure shot ATG. It's just that his decline has been way worse than of any other Top tier batter

Yeah that year was his best. But when you play more games, it is expected that you perform more.

Teams are bowling better to Kohli now and he can't cope in his old age. I think without the influence of injury, Crowe's fundamentals were too strong to ever suffer such an extreme and prolonged slump.
