These are two players I've always associated with each other: in a different world, they could have played for the same country – England.

Can we just go back to batter comparisons and bowler comparisons please

These are both cricketers who i find hard to rate too highly compared to other high level cricketers; Pietersen for playing exclusively in peak years and Philander for gaining a large proportion of his success in SA, NZ and Eng conditions, whilst often picking up very mysterious injuries in other countries. Leaning Philander due to his batting as both could be deadset liabilities in the field.
