We seem to like comparing these players of late, so why not compare them against each other?

These "bullies" have got conditions & home/away splits that make the much maligned 00s openers and condition dependent Anderson/Kumble, look like paragons of versatility.

You all know where my vote is going in this comp, though.

Looking at averages alone, Vernon averages 28 outside RSA which is perfectly acceptable. That, imo is roughly equivalent to averaging around 43-44 with the bat. Therefore Vernon > Warner. No contest.

Philander was a much better bowler than Warner was/is a batsman, and that's before even taking into account he was almost an allrounder with the bat as well (he was selected as an allrounder to bat #7 in several Tests).

I don't think this one is close.
