Good comparison. Is Stokes' bowling better enough to make up for that humongous difference in batting?? As right now, I am on the fence. But Stokes will need to really up his ball game going forward to beat Lord Ted.

Dexter being better is reasonable but not sure Stokes' future declining state (if it remains that way) should count much against him in comparison to a player with an shorter career in a less strenuous role.

If a rise accounts for something, so should a fall.

I'm not sure because Dexter playing in the years Stokes is in now is a hypothetical; to no fault of his own, but it is what it is. And I give pace all rounders some leeway on longevity.

An ATVG batsman that was also a useful bowler might well have been a better player than Stokes though.

I rank players overall to not get in things like a "player cycles". I think Stokes continuing to suck will hamper his team and is definitely a blemish on his record.

He has been very underwhelming ever since his return from a long layoff in 2021 and it does count against him. But I find Dexter hard to rate in general because he did have a very short career. He probably would have held up alright (especially overseas in that era), but I couldn't begrudge someone saying that's hypothetical. Qualitively, he may well have been better than Stokes.

I think it's Very Close either way. Dexter was an ATVG bat and a decent bowler while Stokes a significantly worse bat and a significantly better bowler. Think Lord was better on quality, but Stokes had the better career. Can go either way honestly.

It's a tough comparison and a good case can be made for either. It's not easy to quantify the value of bowlers like Dexter and batsmen like Akram.
