Both left handed, lower middle order batsmen and that played similar roles for their sides. Both averaged low 40's for most of the earlier parts of their careers with massive peaks towards the ends of their careers.

Andy Flower gets a lot of credit for averaging 50 in a weak side but Chanderpaul not so much despite playing x3 the amount of Tests across 2 decades.

Who was better?

Chanderpaul. Flower lacks a century in SENA. Unlucky that he lacked opportunities but rarely playing good pace attacks did also help his average a bit.

I don't think it's fair to say Flower didn't do well against good pace attacks when he has the greatest lone hand against SA and match winning centuries against Pakistan. Plus, I rate his run as the world's best batsman pretty highly and higher than Chanders but it's probably still the selfish crab because muh longevity.

Don’t think he’s overly accomplished/proven enough against pace rather than poor against it. The big series against SA and Ind were great but wouldn’t be comfortable placing him ahead of the likes of Lloyd and Crowe.

Yes but neither is Chanderpaul.
