Don't rate Harvey that high really, a slightly better Kohli for me
but in comparison to solely Barrington, he played a tougher era and did very well.
Yeah but also a big difference in career length, Harvey was averaging 53 in 1960, at that point his career was already longer than Barrington's full career.
also played imo some of the greatest knocks in history of the game.

If Kohli retired in 2021-22 when he was averaging 50 or very close to 50 I think he'd be seen as close to Barrington too.
Yeah but he retired in 2025 after a massive decline. Harvey also retired after a massive decline. At their best they were absolutely close or even better at times than Barrington, but you have to take the horrible declines into account as well and hence not close for me.
Although it's close to being close.

I don't think Harvey was as much a horrible decline as much as a few self contained horrible serieses, he was averaging 36 from 1956 forward but still performed in 6/9 of the serieses he played and played some amazing hundreds (unlike Kohli's whose recent hundreds were all meh) that eases it over for me, not entirely but quite a bit.

I also think Barrington was aided a bit by England not selecting him early, Harvey made the Invincibles as a 19 year old, Barrington was not even deemed good enough to make the test team until the age of 29. From 1953-1958 he was averaging 32 in FC Cricket.

I also kinda have Kohli high, I have him over Miandad.
