Loved to see a WI series in SAF when Donald was at his peak.

Sure. I see Ambrose struggling to make any impact with his back of the length bowling unless there is some life in the wicket like in the 90 Pak series when Imran pushed for pace friendly pitches and maybe in the odd seaming pitch in SL. Otherwise he will be neutralised like he was humiliatingly in Pak in 97 since he doesn't have a good cutter like McGrath which enabled him to do well in India.


You don't know much about Steyn, do you? He had a matchwinning performance in the Pak series to win them it. In UAE, the first series was a dud with neither side being bowled out and in the second series he helped bowl Pakistan out for 99. In the Caribbean he also had at least one solid outright matchwinning performance. And you completely skipped SL where his matchwinning performance in 2014 helped win them the series. So Steyn shined even in his few appearances while Ambrose has nothing like that to compare outside Eng and Aus.

Steyn is just flat out a better proven pacer than Ambrose.


So? Never suggested Ambrose chickened out. Just that he wouldn't be effective there or in the SC generally.

So basically he wouldn't have been good in the SC outside of the games he played in the SC. Gotcha.

In '97 he was past his best and you know this.

I'm saying Steyn outside of his 6 matches in India, don't have that large a sample size in the SC either.

And somehow you don't get that everyone has good performances in a various countries, that doesn't mean they were overall good in said countries.

You're judging Ambrose based on how you believe he would have done in India

I am theorizing based on his skillset. You didn't address that point.

In that phase of his career he was still keeping it tight and averaging 20 everywhere else yet here on flat pitches he got spanked like never before and thought about retirement. Clearly unsuited to those pitches.

I'm saying Steyn outside of his 6 matches in India, don't have that large a sample size in the SC either.

India was his main challenge in the SC and outside that he won matches and series in SL and Pak. Are there logically any question marks on Steyn in the SC? No.

And somehow you don't get that everyone has good performances in a various countries, that doesn't mean they were overall good in said countries.

Except Steyn has a habit of consistently winning games in all those countries and Ambrose does not, outside of Eng and Aus. You are purposely downplaying Steyn.

I'm not down playing Steyn, I rate him just above Sir Curtly. I'm saying he didn't play much outside of home either. He may have actually played away from home less than Ambrose

You didn't address my point as usual.

Your whole post was pretending he didn't do anything outside India in the SC. I had to correct you.

Steyn won games away in a way Ambrose didn't outside Eng and Aus.

It's not just that Ambrose hardly played outside Eng and Aus but that he hardly did anything too.

And tell me why you are confident that Ambrose will succeed in the SC with his MO.
