I was about to vote Imran as easily the better cricketer, this is much harder.

Both ranked 8, and both have "issues" that puts them there.

Need to think about this one

Very tough in primary disciples since I rate Hutton par with Smith and only behind Viv, Sobers, Hobbs, Tendulkar. At the same time I only rate Marshall, Mcgrath, Hadlee clearly(but by a small margin) ahead of Imran. Steyn slightly ahead of Imran, and maybe Ambrose and Murali part or slightly behind. So maybe Immy for his peak, and given what more he could’ve accomplished if he hadn’t been injured in the middle of his peak. But this is more or less nearly a tie

If Hutton hadn't been injured, he might just be the best candidate for second to Bradman. The very fact that he came back from such a crippling injury and followed that to be one of the Greatest batsman of All Time, is really one of my favorite stories of perseverance.
The poll is really close though, not sure at all. Always find it hard to separate Viv-Hutton-Sunny as batsman, to an extent Smith and Lara as well, might go as far as Sobers. In terms of Test batsmen, only Sachin and Hobbs are clearly ahead for me (bar Don). On the other hand, Imran is around the same with Steyn-Ambrose-Wasim-Warne, probably Murali as well. Only Marshall-McGrath-Hadlee are ahead clearly might do Barnes as well, but then again not by much. They are pretty evenly matched really.

Fair point on the Hutton injury

I've got Hutton a few places down from that, but think he could be a more rare talent, as a batsman.

I'll go Hutton because he's losing.

Have to say I love how you slip Sunny in there, lol.

But to the substantive part of your post, mostly agree. My main issue with Hutton was his strike rate and even back then there were complaints about his inability or reluctance to dominate attacks. That's it, otherwise, top tier he would be, instead of the sub tier I have for Lara, Smith and him.

If you still don't get that I rate Sunny that highly, you may ignore my posts. No need to bring that up on everything. I also slipped in Viv and Lara and Smith and heck even Wasim, Ambrose and Barnes.....
