Hmm...... It's a great comparison. Think Stokes' peak was better overall but was shorter while Kohli's downfall was worse. Still think it's Kohli, but way closer than it should have been

It's a good comparison. I think kohli got everything out of himself in tests, Stokes the batsman is a big underachiever.

A few years ago this would’ve been easy.

Kohli’s bad years weren’t just bad though, they were diabolical and actively lost us games.

Tough one but I’d still give it to Kohli because Stokes is a criminal.

has that really ever stopped people from rating sportsmen?
Perhaps not privately/anonymously. On TV… Karl Malone’s name is avoided as much as possible for example. You’ll only hear Duncan/KG/Dirk mentioned in terms of retired PFs. (these whippersnappers have forgotten Pettit)

Then again that could also be due to the particular nature of his crime.

when I made that comment, I immediately thought of Mike Tyson.

I know it's not a sport, but among pro-wrestling fans, the abilities of Chris Benoit and Tom Billington is still considered in extremely high regards and those two were vile, very depressing when they are remembered more than nice ones who were less skilled.
