It's gotten harder to take seven wickets in an innings (especially for fast bowlers)

Agree that Starc would be most likely of the Aussies. Too much competition for wickets unless there's a couple of injuries and PatCum is bowling with spuds like Jackson Bird and Scott Boland for support.

Guessing different make up of attacks so pace men share their wickets now.
I don't think either the composition or the relative ability of the pace bowlers in our attacks is that different compared to, say, the eighties, same with other countries.

I was influenced by Line and length's post and thinking of earlier eras than the 80s, or the 70s where his example came from.

This is a trend that began in the 00's and really became pronounced in the 10s.

I personally think it's at least somewhat batting related. It's like teams score faster in collapses in pace friendly conditions, so there's fewer third and fourth spells. You don't see anyone grinding out 200 in 90 overs anymore, and they give away their wickets more evenly rather than to one particular bowler.

Wagner's vs the Windies. 6 short ball wickets at 130 kph and one yorker. Legend
Don’t remember this. Actually don’t remember any Wagner spells apart from the Wade one, the dismissals have all blurred into one short ball and an angry face.

His short balls get slower each year, but if anything making them even more effective. Batsmen get bored and decide to get out to it more.
