yeah I don't get it, even statistically they're only 2 points apart,.with Gooch having like 50 more innings and pretty sure he was averaging same as Greenidge like 200 innings in (Greenidge played 185 innings). Reckon opening in England and 50+ innings against Peak West Indies makes up for 2 point gap anyway.

Gooch averages only 2 runs less and has a better record v quality attacks

iirc a player who has their peak earlier in their career will almost always be rated ahead of a late peak career, not matter how similar or even close the two might be. All about perception.

Yeah guess that's it, Greenidge also is a weird case of a guy having two peaks so that probably helps make an illusion of consistency.
