Both of their averages are both just north of 47, although Boycott did play more Tests over a much longer span.

Seen the footage for both, and I will say that neither really make for "exhilarating viewing" despite having all the strokes. If you are to believe this source: https://www.sportstats.com.au/hotscore.html , Lawry did have the somewhat higher SR at 38.8 compared to Boycott's 35.4 . Still, both clearly believed that their best roles for their sides in facing the new ball was to see it off at all costs to shield their middle order bats, so would tend to eschew early run scoring and open up after the ball lost some bite.

But Boycott had a negative reputation for selfishness on the pitch and had a prickly reputation during his playing days, wheras Lawry actually captained his side. Yet Boycott often comes up highly in all time openers conversations, and Lawry is rarely mentioned? Anyway, just wondering why this would be the case, and thought it was an interesting comparison.

International Captain
Boycott, but I am a fan of Bill Lawry. He's very close to an Australian all time XI in my book.
