Sunny I find more impressive against raw speed and bounce while Lara against seamers and swingers.

against Holding, Donald, Akhtar and Thompson type bowlers, I'd take Gavaskar.

against Pollock, Jimmy, McGrath and Bumrah type bowlers, I'd take Lara.

None of the two were especially great in fast conditions. Lara better in seaming ones.

Actually what is the parameter in which Gavaskar excells in?
He definetly had problems with swing. Not enough problem to label it as a limitation.
He was a fine player of spin at the sub continent but he is mostly lauded for his technique against fast bowling. If any of swing, bounce, seam or pace isn't his strong area, then what is?

Was Great against reverse and pace, as was to spin, some people just overhype things according to their own agenda.

Against very high speed Gavasker was probably better. He scored good deal of runs against Thommo. I wouldn’t like to see Lara take on Thommo.
I mean Lara did take on Lee who was Thommo like in terms of pace. So.....But yeah, I'll give Sunny the edge vs pace. More so seeing that Sunny was an opener and a damn great opener at that.

Thommo was easily quicker than Lee. Shoaib better comparison. Thommo was a slinger, lot harder to pick whereas Lee was lot easier to pick. Lara would definitely have his hardest matchup by far.

How did gavaskar survived against express speed bowler without helmet?
Is it because the bowlers line and length were not good at all?
I mean why no one died in that era because of nasty bouncers, even though they played without any protection?

people rarely actually die from the ball hitting their face, plus Gavaskar was small and could duck quick, the pacers back before helmets did hospitalize the Batsmen a bunch, broken jaws, ribs, hands etc was common

I always wondered how history may have gone down if Woodfull’s heart had given out or Oldfield had a little more than a skull fracture in Adelaide.
