he didn't need to because he rightfully stepped away. Virat at his peak is a more complete and miles better batsman than Chanders.

Peak I agree but career not,his career stats are similar to Amla,Clarke and Pietersen which they are not ATGs.
Chanders was consistent at the end of his career even though you can it selfish or not out.

Chanderpaul’s career isn’t rated highly here (or anywhere tbh). He might lose to Pujara here lol.

I don't care for career average, Like Michael Hussey averages 52 and Cheteshwar Pujara 43 and the latter was clearly a better batsman, Kohli played in a much tougher era than those guys, and also Chanderpaul, and Kohli made more runs per innings than Chanderpaul who is a not out guy, he also batted in tougher positions than him and wasn't a flop when batting against the new ball. Shiv much closer to Pujara than to Kohli.

That I can agree with it due to Hussey majorly scoring in home ground and subcontinent but it's not like Chanders has been scoring in home ground.He has a good away average as well.

He hid down the order and made runs against the old ball and farmed not outs for his average, terrible at Batting with the tail, without Bangladesh and Zimbabwe he only makes 40 runs in an innings, Virat makes 43 or 44, and that is when Chanderpaul batted in a very easy era while Kohli in mostly a tough one, and Kohli batted in top 4 and against new ball way more while Chanders was a flop when he went to top 4.
