Was Tikolo the Aubrey Faulkner of Kenya?
Maybe. Averaging 30 in ODIs still isn't very impressive, especially given a lot of his cricket would have been against other minnows. He would probably have been an average state player in SA or Aus.

I think there were quite a few of 'A' tours and unofficial tours by various top teams to Kenya in the mid-to-late 90s which helped Kenya as well. Don't know if this kind of thing petered out eventually and if that may have been a factor as well.

For example India sent a reasonably strong 'A' side to Kenya in 1995 and the tour received decent coverage back home. Kenya were easily overcome in the end but still managed to win one game chasing a big total. The reports were pretty optimistic about Kenya's future, and when the World Cup came along the next year we were pretty familiar with those names and knew they wouldn't necessarily be pushovers.
