If it's nine down with half an hour to play and he's not batted yet, there's no way he ain't going out there.
Exactly. If that scenario comes up, he will do what Cairns (with Astle vs England 2002) and Harris (with Mills vs Australia 04/05) did. He won't be able to control himself. He will have to get out there.

There's no way he won't bat tomorrow if he's needed.
Only recently Sanath was described as "very lucky" after batting with his shoulder - the clear implication was that, if he'd been less lucky, his career would be over.
Surely - even in what is, undoubtedly, an important Test - it'd be more worthwhile to eliminate all risk to Tendulkar's career and increase the risk of losing the series-victory?

Indeed.
But sending him in as normal - or even if there's 30 overs left, Dravid's still there, and 8 or 9 are down - would IMO be a bad mistake.

It isn't that bad is it? He's out of the ODI's because he needs an op to remove a cyst.

He'll bat tomorrow.
Oh, right?
It's not a joint problem?

The irony is, Cairns was flogging a dead lion - New Zealand had long since lost that game - but if he'd not come in imagine what special moments in cricket history we'd have lost.

He put-off the tennis-elbow operation long enough (understandible, really, given that he'd have missed the two biggest series in Indian cricket had he had it done sooner - Australia and Pakistan).
I'm worried that he's apparently done the same again (even though England at home is too a big series).

This came out of nowhere. I'm shattered. :(

And there's no way in hell, in the shorter form of the game, that Tendulkar missing is a good thing for India. He's been doing brilliantly.

Reports indicate that Tendulkar will definitely bat on Day 5 for India.

As for his absence from the one-day side, he will surely be missed but there is a postive aspect as well. India can build some more depth, especially for that reserve opener's spot where Gambhir has been inconsistent. Every injury helps the team out in the long run in some subtle way or the other. Besides, why not get another look into how our team will be after the champion leaves us (perhaps after the World Cup). The focus is on youth, this is their opportunity to show their mettle. Our team is basically Dravid, two "veterans" who are 26 or so (Viru and Bhajji) and a bunch of talented youngsters. I refuse to mention Agarkar in "our team". :)

Just look at England's injury situation with Trescothick, Vaughan, Giles, Jones and now Harmison out of action. Sure it might've hurt them in this series, but in the long run? England have definitely developed some bench strength because of guys like Cook, Shah, Collingwood (proving himself) and Panesar.

Be optimistic!

Pandove said Tendulkar had a cyst and a tear in his right shoulder. The injury was first noticed after the home series against Sri Lanka last December.

One of those "I'll put it off for a while" niggles (although the "tear" thing must surely be new I'd have thought).

He had this pain and some tests were done for which the report came yesterday. I think the tear came out in those test results.

He did wince after the throw to run out Shah yesterday and has confirmed that he has been having pain while throwing.

Whatever it takes!!!
BTW, I think his bowling will be a very important of him that will be missed during this series. He was quite awesome with his dibbly dobblers in Pakistan during the latter part of the ODI series there.

I find it very unlikely that England would've won the series with Trescothick, Vaughan and Harmison. Giles and Jones might have made a difference - but only might.
It would've been quite some achievement to avoid defeat in any case, now it's just been that bit better.
