"Tidy knocks" is pretty understated. He's got higher peaks than anything that comes to mind for Bairstow, like two record match saves.

Also the points about nz being easier yo have a longer career for go against all data. English players consistently play longer than first choice nz players.

It's been repeatedly mentioned on here that England players are known for retiring early tbh. But that might be because of heavy test workloads rather than opposition dynamics and will also be less of a thing with Central contracts I'd guess.

20 bucks says Anderson would’ve retired a few years ago if he was a Kiwi. Ooh I can’t wait for my 40 year old season for the only 2 tests we’ll play for a year.
Is Anderson a batsman? I said tougher batting conditions will generally make sustaining a longer career and sound resume harder from a batting POV. You can try to disingenuously insinuate this as English bias all you like but I said the exact same thing in the Kohli v Younis debate and constantly defend Hashim Amla with the same logic because his decline coinciding with very tough batting conditions reduced his longevity and raw numbers. I've even repeatedly pointed out that the bowling conditions Broad and Anderson's received in the same 2017-2021 period have greatly helped them go on for so long.

I was just replying to that specific post. I think in general the prospect of more matches in that time period would incentivise the player to continue for longer is all.

Though actually, assuming Anderson had played for NZ and played the same percentage of tests (112) he’d be right around Hadlee’s record for New Zealand about now, so he’d stick around to shoot for it I’m sure.
