Better Cricketer?

I honestly feel Edrich is underrated and i couldn't find a single thread of him in player comparisons. He averages exceptional well in Australia and good in West Indies

@ataraxia , sorry that thread was a mistake.. lets get here...
apart from the respect he gets from his teammates for his gentleman nature.. Woodfull is just an ordinary cricketer.

I'm pretty sure that the Aussie first class circuit in 1920s and 30s was so flat that even when Don came out averaged 110 and stuff, people didn't really bat an eye until he conquered England.

Don't think averaging 65 in FC is very ordinary.
Not ordinary, but not uncommon at that point either.

Some Sheffield Shield averages..

Bradman 110.19
Ponsford 83.27
Kippax 70.88
Woodfull 67.03

Also wow. Today I learned that in Shield cricket Monty Noble has this statline…

(1895-1909)

51 matches
4896 @ 68.00 19 tons
159 @ 22.55 12 5’fers

This is a very good match up. One of the better ones. Hard to pick but I remember Edrich and thought him the best English bat when I was growing up and considered him better than Boycott at the time.

Yes. In the 75 Ashes against prime Lillee and Thomson a 38 year old Edrich scored 428 runs @ 53.5
Yeah, it also debunks the clown narrative some people (like PC) try to push that 70s pacers were yards faster than their predecessors.

He also got a big ton at Adeliade against a rampaging, pre Injury Dennis Lillee and was also very important in the Sydney test, only really struggled with Lillee in 73.

Hmm, Woodfull must have been much better than Ponsford outside Shield and Tests then.
