Welcome bazballs

I vote Crowe

Miandad had home umpires in his pocket. They knew if they gave him out lbw, they could say bye bye to their job

Miandad is criminally and systematically overrated in hindsight on this forum as it but this one is baffling really. Miandad was probably better even in NZ granted he murdered Hadlee in NZ.

Their entire careers overlapped basically and both debuted stupidly young yet one averaged a good 6 more runs. Even having guys like Border in a different tier to Miandad is only because of Anglocentrism. C'mon.

I was quite surprised to see Dravid beat Miandad so easily on here and I know Crowe is very highly rated on CW so was interested to see the results of this. I’d probably go with Miandad but definitely think the gap between them is smaller than the disparity between their averages.

I'd agree with that too. Crowe was the best batsman in the world for a while. I rate him very highly. But **** me the Miandad opinions on here are cancerous.

Miandad was clearly the better bat. Crowe was great too btw.

A lot has been discussed about Miandad benefitting from biased home umpiring. While there is truth in that, the same could be said about some of the other countries as well. NZ umpires of 70s/80s were shady as hell too.

Were neutral umpires introduced in NZ before start of Crowe's career ? Not sure.

Yeah cricket has a lot to say about how great everything was back in the day but you'll rarely see the absolute amateur hour stuff acknowledged, like the state of global officiating.

New broadcast toys showing up neutral umpires and forcing in DRS kinda heavily implies the home umpire days were a trainwreck.

Neutral umpires were trialed in 92/93, and instituted internationally in 1994. Crowe's career ended in 1995, so no most of Crowe's career did not take place in the era of neutral umpires.

I don't think it should be much of an issue though. Ultimately it adds more to the "home advantage" aspect of the game. Like the need for away goals in football, and the implicit home advantage in refereeing as well in both football and basketball. It's getting better over time with more technology, but yes it used to be bad by our modern eyes.

Miandad easily in this though Crowe was great in his own right.

Javed got the benifit form home umpiring but I think he also got rough end of the stick when he travelled still a 46 away average shows he was much more then a home bully.

Miandad wins this for sure.

But Crowe is definitely way better than his average would suggest imo. For a solid decade he was one of the premier bastmen in the world. That should count for a lot in comparison with other mid 40s average batsmen .

Crowe's average suffers because he was picked too young and played with injuries. Exactly the same is true of Miandad except he averaged 6 more runs in the same era. Crowe is better than most guys who averaged 50 in the 00s for sure.
