Which bowler was better in these phases?

Shoaib (2002 to 2007) vs Harris (2010 to 2015)

Mushtaq Ahmed (1995 to 1998) vs Ashwin (2018 to 2021)

Murali (2000 to 2006) vs Marshall (1983 to 1989)

Wasim (1990 to 1997) vs Ambrose (1988 to 1994)

Croft (1977 to 1982) vs Bishop (1989 to 1993)

Can I ask why Harris and Murali?
Harris (rather ironically, cos he was Harris) cos he was more reliable in terms of fitness. I might be wrong on this. It's a good comparison.

Murali, cos of a lot of things. But mainly output. He's got way more wickets in this period than Marshall's career.

Harris was also unfit but mostly between series rather than mid series like Shoaib.

Marshall had a WPM of 6 in his peak which makes him pretty competitive with Murali.

My impression is something like that for Shoaib and Harris, but the way Harris managed his injuries was less of a problem for the team.

Murali was over 7, and over more matches. Marshall was already out rested or injured for a number of games. He doesn't take 50% more wickets like Murali without wrecking his stats.
Here is Mushtaqs peak for reference. Quite underrated.

Really impressive numbers, but 20 tests comes with a big asterisk next to it for me. IDK much about the context.

what's Murali's numbers away and without zim/ban
Record of Muttiah Muralitharan (2000-2006) in away and neutral venue:-

Against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe; away and neutral; 2000-2006:-

So that would be 132 wickets @22.23 in 21 matches. Pretty good imo.

Hadlee was clearly better overseas imo. Way better WPM, average, more 5WH and 10WH.

Yeah the Murali vs Marshall one is tough imo. Murali was playing in a much higher scoring era and with minimal support (compared to Marshall) Could go either way.

A spinner having comparable stats to a pacer is pretty crazy in itself.

If Murali is better in that period, that was pretty much Marshall's whole career, and Murali played for more years before and Same years after that peak and was still among the World's best bowlers; then shouldn't he just be the best bowler ever ahead of Marshall??

The same caveats to Muralis overall career apply somewhat to his peak.
