Specialist Wicketkeepers are not cricketers.

Liton Das > Alan Knott

What the hell are you guys smoking?

Imagine playing cricket for 20 years and the only thing you know is how to catch a ball and that too with gloves on.

Alan Knott is basically like a Tim Paine who got lucky.
Try taking a look at how "Deadly" and tricky Underwood was on a wet pitch.

Heck, even look at how Boucher looked keeping to Murali, he was at sea.

Yes, with covered wickets and less dependency on spinners, wicketkeeping isn't quite the sociality as it used to be, but it's still critical.

Take a look at Dujon for the battery, Healy perfectly handling Warne, to say they aren't cricketers or have no value is a joke.

I * think * you're trolling/laying it on for effect, but I don't get the condescension towards keepers. You'd think the guy more involved than anyone else in a game of cricket would merit a little more respect. I get that keeping isn't always glamorous but cumulatively a keeper's prowess and efficiency or lack thereof absolutely makes a difference to a team's fortunes. A Khatmal with a perpetual grimace behind the sticks won't get you very far in life.

People here want to pretend as if games haven't been won or lost by wicket keepers.
Yeah but there is a narrative on here from some that Anderson was poor for two thirds of his career when really he was very good to sometimes great from 2010 to 2023 which in itself is a long career for a seamer. Definitely very overrated by the English media and England fans elsewhere (which probably in part triggers an overkill here) but sometimes rated harshly on CW imo.

There is still a fair case for Knott given how substantial he was, but I would go Anderson.

Understood, but I rate one as an ATG and the other as pretty damn good, lol.

Yeah, not really close for me.

TBF this is probably accurate for most good English players in the modern era although it’s not their fault. The reason they probably get overrated is because England have barely produced any undisputed ATGs since the 1960s (only Botham).

Yeah but Anderson gets best pace bowler of all time type shouts from them. I don't think Root or KP etc get plaudits of that level of disproportion so the media hype Anderson receives is probably particularly grating.

Anderson has a point of difference through his wickets quantity, and people milk that for all it's worth because it's convenient for their jobs.

Root might get similar types of plaudits to Anderson by the end of his career tbf. Maybe Stokes will too.

Brook could too although I genuinely think he could end up in the top echelon of batsmen.
