About New Cricket Bat Knocking

Irashid

Cricket Spectator
Hi,

I would love to have some advice regarding new bat preparation and taking care of them during off season. I got a SS Ton Players Edition bat, knocked in well and feels really great now. But after knocking I can see the grains are separating and the thin layer of bat face surface wood is coming off, I presume it's normal for cricket bat when they are ready. My question is whether I should use a sand paper and sand that thin layer of the face or should I just keep my bat face sheet and do nothing ?

Thanks for your support.

I'm making the assumption that you've not let it get wet in the rain, but I wouldn't say normal for a cricket bat for it to be separating at the grains, before sand papering it I'd suggest getting in touch with the store you bought it for as many bats these days carry a warranty against defects which sounds like what you're experiencing.
