2025–26 Australian Domestic Season

This comment on reddit seems a good summary of Weatherald's 23/24 season. I checked the Second XI scorecards; he made 223* in one game and otherwise didn't play a lot.

I also remember people saying he tried to go back to SA after Tas didn't play him but they wouldn't release him. All worked out well now I suppose.

I remember seeing him a bit a couple years ago when he lost his spot and he was in dreadful touch. He looked like he could barely hold a bat for a while there but then came roaring back into form in the Big Bash batting down the order for the Strikers IIRC

Hayden kerr has signed with Queensland. Interesting call given they already have wildermuth and neser.

He's been mistreated at NSW. Should have played more IMO.
Can't say I agree tbqh. Just don't think Kerr is quite good enough in either discipline to really hold down a permanent spot in red ball cricket at least, although he would be handy depth to have

Was basically fighting for the same spot as Jack Edwards back at NSW, and I definitely rate Edwards a little higher these days

He had/has the ingredients to be a real genuine all rounder, just never got a consistent run. There's a lot to like about his batting and his bowling

Yeah I used to think the same, but NSW doesn't need a genuine allrounder who isn't good enough to play as a batsman or a bowler when Edwards exists. Punting on Edwards has ended up working out.

We have picked worse specialist bowlers at times though tbf.

I'm not sure there is anything to really like about his bowling other than being a left armer. 130ish straight up and down pretty much anytime I've seen him

Eh not really sure that's true unless you mean Gilkes, and despite my moaning he wasn't terrible last season.
Granted I haven't been following NSW games closely and unlike some (GAS) have failed to follow ball-by-ball coverage of 2nd XI fixtures but from memory you guys have played some ordinary-looking opening bats specifically in recent seasons

Just feel that if they'd given Kerr a decent run he might have shown up with a 35+ bat avge and sub 30 bowling

Opening bats are a bit of a different species, Kerr was never really in the running to do that and if he did he would've averaged 20 or so.

Am genuinely interested to see who NSW do open with come next season, Konstas will likely be one (hopefully for the full season as he shouldn't be anywhere near the Test team) but who will open up alongside him? Maddinson obviously a possibility but only if he's remembered which end of the bat to hold by now, but outside of that I wouldn't have a clue

I know he technically got the arse from the contract list, but Dan Hughes seems to have been going alright in county cricket

Patterson might actually ask to open as well depending on how things line up.
