International Debutant
In the last 3 years or so Stokes has averaged 45 (while Root has averaged 44). His career overage is misleading. Stokes is very much on Root's level as a Test batsman now
We can include Buttler too if using a short time frame.

International Coach
Stokes is like Brendon McCullum. Does most things that would expose you at the top level like playing at most balls which can be left alone with hard hands etc but at the end, just as the case with McCullum, their extraordinary hand eye coordination comes through.

Must say that before someone start comparing these two, Stokes's technique is much more solid 'looking' compared to BMac

3 years is not that short a time frame. Judging purely from career averages taken from over the course of a decade where the players have changed immensely (as you did) is short-sighted and misleading.
