How to ignore people?

If there's a poster here who's annoying me, and I'm not saying there is, and I want to put him on ignore, how would I go about doing that?

I have absolutely no idea how to use the ignore function so you'd have to go through the process methodically with me.

Click on their User Profile, then click on the text that says 'Add this user to your ignore list' (or words to that effect).
