    ***Official*** VB Series 2006

NZ is a seamers paradise though, not suited to their spinners and their batsmen wouldn't enjoy it. In the WI they're far more likely to get slowish flat wickets - not sure that they'll turn that much but they're clever bowlers so they may be able to pin batsmen down.

Well it was around 7.5 at the fall of wicket. I think you're going to struggle anyway once Murali comes on.

I haven't got TV coverage but Cricinfo says it was a slower ball - Clever bowling or bad shot?

On their performance (so far) in the VB, are SL are threat in the WC?

Oh no the Powerplay! That's thrown a spanner in the works

Sri Lanka are favourites now I guess. Maybe they will keep the quicker bowlers on a bit longer now?

Ponting is the key. If he bats for 20-30 overs Australia have a real chance.

What amazes me about Ponting is that as a bowler I wouldn't mind bowling to him as his technique looks faulty! If you can bowl inswingers you'd really fancy getting him LBW - if not then he seems very susceptible to the ball just short of a length outside off. Given all that he averages over...

    England team awarded MBEs

That depends which question you want addressing. If question is "why doesn't anything in rugby union compare with an Ashes win in Britain". 1) The England cricket team represents all of the UK. The England rugby team represents England. 2) Rugby union is not a popular sport at all in England...

Little and little known cricketing oddities

Ian Botham only played one Test in Pakistan, despite playing test cricket for 15 years. Sir Richard Hadlee's father (WA Hadlee), two of his brothers (DR & BG Hadlee) and his wife (K Hadlee) all represented NZ at cricket.

    England team awarded MBEs

I'd say that both sports are secondary in England, football is king. If England got to the final of the world cup this year (even if they didn't win) that would be a bigger event than the Ashes and the Rugby World Cup wins added together.

The history of innovations in cricket

I think Ian Botham was 1986/87 in the B&H World Series Cup game 7 against Australia. He opened and got 45 from 87 balls. Then in the first final match (against Aus again) he got 71 from 52 balls (he was first out with the score on 91!), and in the second 25 from 31 balls (first out with the...

    Comparing different eras

    1. The wars always brought a massive change in all stats. Batting boomed after both wards. I think it is because the top bowlers of the world aged during the five odd years the WW's lasted. Batsmen with longer career spans survived and made merry with weaker bowling. This is particularly true...

    England team awarded MBEs

Yes I know, but imagine if a group of your workmates (for instance) had a vote to get you kicked out of your job, but in the end voted not to, would you be a happy bunny? Not a true analogy I know, but you get the idea. Actually I don't think the Queen gives a monkeys whether she's Queen of Oz...

    ***Official*** South Africa in Australia

I agree with this - if it suits Australia to play attacking cricket it may just be the right tactic sometimes to play attritional cricket. Kallis's game is based upon a sound technique and grinding out runs, to play aggressively would negate his undoubted ability to play the anchor role...

I suppose it depends what he said really - If he said "You lucky ****ing pig-****er" to the batsman then I'd considor it obscene and insulting, whereas if he said "Catch it you stupid ****" it might be ok.

You can't have it both ways: you have a vote to chuck her out as monarch, replace her picture with the ugly side of the Addams family on your money and then you expect her to support you in the cricket? Get real :) And just to re-iterate the govt. decide who get the gongs, so they pander to...

Correct so far. Interesting to see what SA do if they get out to bat later, I guess they have to get a lead of 300plus and leave themselves an hour to bowl tonight. Hopefully this rain will go away, then we could be in for an interesting last day with Aus batting to save the series.

    Mr. Croft "The Spouter"

Rubbish, what about the Tasmanian Wolf? The Tasmanian wolf has been sighted during Pontings Test career, and I think it's obvious that Ricky captaining the country and it's re-appearance are not unconnected. What's Lara done? Nothing that's what! Not so much as a coelacanth spotted, lazy...

Indian Board calls for scrapping of Champions Trophy

Too true. A 20-20 competition is in order though, you could play the whole thing in a week.
