    De Silva Vs Miandad

Miandad in ODIS was better than his SR suggests. He was literally the backbone behind many Pakistan innings and was much more consistent than DeSilva.

Which attack do you rate higher?

    In SA they did.

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

Great then you can compare how he did up the order versus down the order.

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

Define legit. Every position you bat down the order is easier than the one before. And why don't you consider Chanders 3/4 record legit but only his 5/6 record legit?

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

Um, I didn't know. That's why I checked and then I found Inzis no.6 was mostly early career and he didn't binge there like Chanders. Did you know Chanders record at 3/4 and why isnt that relevant?

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

It balances out since Gooch never played much vs SA like Inzi did who struggled against them. Bro, you say no to hypotheticals but then you engage in that towards the end when you assume he would have struggled with more tests vs Aus/SA. Which may be true, may be not. It seems the argument...

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

This seems unfairly penalising against Inzi. He didnt play SA/Aus as much so we assume he would do worse. And all his success in the 2000s should not be considered at all. Scoring in NZ and Eng don't count. Runs against Ambrose/Walsh dont count. Objectively Gooch has more holes in his record...

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

Well, Inzi like Gooch had a good tour against an ATG Aus team in 99, but that didn't stop us from saying he failed there overall. Inzi also scored against Gough/Caddick in 2001. Great but those performances are balanced with poor series as well. We can say he had a higher ceiling than Inzi...

Why is it viewed as more important

No, specific to Kyear2, our issue with him at the moment is inconsistency. But he claims to accept flat pitch context, so my point on Imran and Steyn would be to penalise Steyn which I know he won't do hence I said that.

Why is it viewed as more important

Maybe you misconstrued me. I am telling him to maintain one standard and stick with it. Either we contextualise for flatter pitches for all or we dont and take figures at face value. I can respect either position.

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

The problem is you are exaggerating Gooch's success in his record. He failed in Aus, never played in SA, a poor series in NZ and has a moderate record in SC. Even against WI, overall he wasnt outrageously good, but impressive. I give him points for being an opener, but as you mentioned, Inzi...

Years or Test - Which is the best way to test longevity?

This sounds fine in theory but in reality these ATGs most of the time dont need to salvage their stats or consistently suck for two tests in a row because of not adapting. The only one I recall consistently doing that was Lara and he made up for it by scoring a daddy. 5 test series just give...

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

You are exaggerating Gooch, cherrypicking his best series and downplaying Inzi and ignoring his best series. Gooch also failed overall in Aus like Inzi and never played in SA. Yes, he had tougher conditions at home but also overall wasnt that great away. Gooch was impressive yes against WI but...

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

That's not relevant to this question though.

    Team Battles

Thanks. Would the Warne factor override the Thommo factor?
  16. S

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

Last I checked 5 is lower in the order than 4. Not saying this is the major difference but yes it is a factor for me where the majority of your runs comes from. And Inzi at 6 was mostly early career and he hardly scored at that position. And Chanders played 1/4th of his innings at 3/4 and was...

    Team Battles

Which team wins: Mid-70s Aus under Chappell vs Mid-90s Aus under Taylor Late 80s WI under Viv vs Early 2010s SA under Smith Late 80s Pak under Imran vs Late 90s SA under Cronje WC 96 SL under Ranatunga vs WC 2011 India under Dhoni WC 79 WI under Lloyd vs WC 99 Aus under Waugh

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

Inzi. Gooch didn't have the output, Chanders hid down the order

Years or Test - Which is the best way to test longevity?

Well it's not fair, sure. But it's just a ground reality that McGrath kept that level of performance for way more tests than any pacer and should get credit. Similar to Tendulkar averaging nearly 60 for a period of 157 tests. But then that has time longevity of being 18 years also.

Imagine an attack of Wasim, Waqur, M Zahid, Saqlain/Akthar

Well when Wasim was at his peak they werent whitewashed in Australia.
