    Vale Derek Underwood

I think Jim Laker and Hedley Verity might have something to say about that, but one of the very best for sure.

    Vale Derek Underwood

RIP to a great bowler, one of the best ever left-arm spinners. England haven't had a better spinner in the 40+ years since his retirement.

    Jadeja vs a Medieval Knight

Depends which medieval knight. In a sword dance, William Marshall would eat Jadeja for breakfast.

Median bowler to average exactly 30?

Yep. He reached the double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in June, beating everyone else in history by a comfortable margin. In the match against Somerset at Bath, he scored 111 and 117*, and picked up 6 for 70 and 5 for 45. He remains the only cricketer with two hundreds and two five-fors in the...

Median bowler to average exactly 30?

George Hirst was a giant of first class cricket, one of the greatest county cricketers ever. Lord Hawke described him as the greatest county cricketer of all time. In 1906, he became the only cricketer to score 2,000 runs and take 200 wickets in an English cricket season. Also in 1906, he...

    Peter May vs Denis Compton

Interestingly in the 70s and 80s May was widely considered to be the best batsman to debut for England since the war, yet there is no comparison between him and Barrington statistically.

    Ijaz Ahmed vs Ajinkya Rahane

Ijaz because I scored a match he played, spoke to him and got his autograph. Weirdly it was a local match (he played for Khalsa in the Leeds league) but he only got about 11 or 12 before being caught.

    Harold Larwood VS Jacques Kallis

From what I've read, I don't think Cowie and Martindale were regarded as highly as Gregory as pure bowlers at the time. Some of this could be Anglo-Australian bias, but remember also that Cowie only played 3 Tests in the 1930s and none against Australia. Martindale only played 10 Tests, also...

    Harold Larwood VS Jacques Kallis

Voce's overall record isn't directly comparable as he switched between pace and spin. In the bodyline series Voce bowled pace almost exclusively, but he was overshadowed by Larwood in this series.

    Harold Larwood VS Jacques Kallis

Yeah Maurice Tate was the only inter-war pacer with a significantly better Test record, but unlike Larwood he was far from rapid. Bill Bowes had a much better average, but he only played 14 Tests and again was far from Larwood's pace. At the start of WWII, I think the common consensus was that...

    Harold Larwood VS Jacques Kallis

Except Harbhajan didn't have to bowl to Bradman. Larwood's stats excluding bodyline are underwhelming but it is tough bowling to the best batsman ever.

    Harold Larwood VS Jacques Kallis

Since when did anyone claim Larwood to be the best fast bowler ever (except possibly aesthetically)?

    Harold Larwood VS Jacques Kallis

Yep, Bradman's stats were really restricted by two bowlers he played 0 Tests against.

    Neil Harvey vs Geoffrey Boycott

Surprised Harvey is winning this easily. Boycott maintained a world class standard for almost 20 years. Harvey had a phenomenal start to his career, but only averaged about 40 for the second half of his career. Obviously Harvey was much better to watch so perhaps that swings it for some people.
